1182 Tallinn stage the mother of all comebacks

After getting down by 25 points in the third quarter, 1182 Tallinn made a huge comeback against SK Cēsis to celebrate the second consecutive triumph with a 85-81 home win on Saturday, February 7.

 

It`s hard to explain how big this comeback was without some spectacular numbers.

 

SK Cēsis players made a season high 14 three pointers to build a 25 point lead early in the second half 35-60.

 

1182 Tallinn scored impressive 50 points in remaining 15 minutes for team`s greatest points-per-minute effort.

 

Guards Pirgit Püü, Marit Maaring and Birgit Piibur scored a combined 30 points during comeback, including 18 points in last seven minutes.

 

Sisters Ilze and Zane Jākobsones fought off the hosts less than three minutes before the end of regulation. Three pointer by Zane Jākobsone extended Cēsis lead back to four points 77-81.

 

Uģis Viļums side didn`t score a single point afterwards, while 1182 Tallinn players went on a final 8-0 run to complete a 25 point comeback.

 

1182 Tallinn improved to 13-3 and returned to the second place, while SK Cēsis dropped to 13-3.

 

All time series: 2-5 (this season 2-0).

 

Stat of the game: 1182 Tallinn held on thanks to some stunning free throw shooting, hitting 26 of 26 from the foul line.

 

Stars of the game: Laina Mesila-Kaarmann scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, finishing the game with 25 points and five rebounds. Pirgit Püü scored 8 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter, while adding a team high seven forced fouls.

 

Birgit Piibur scored 10 points in the fourth quarter, amassing 18 points and five assists. Marit Maaring collected 11 points in 11 minutes of action.

 

Līga Šurkusa made 5 of 5 three pointers, while Zane Jākobsone made 6 of 10 attempts off the arc.
