Martin Maaring in action

Today you will get to know Marit Maaring who is the guard in 1182 Tallinn and also part of the Estonian Women's National Team. This season she has played 8 games where averaged 7.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

How do you motivate yourself before the games?

I imagine our team holding the winning trophy, so therefor every game is a chance to step closer to achieve our goal.

What kind of rituals you have before the games?

I have a specific set of exercises, which keeps me calm and concentrated before the game.

Do you have anything you dislike about basketball?

I really don't like losing a game.

In your eyes, what's the difference between men's and women's basketball?

Obviously it's the physical, intensity, speed and skills difference between men's and women's basketball. Women can't jump so high as men do, so there's less 'show' in a women's game. Although I believe that women's basketball is more emotional and intelligent than the men's game.

Have you done any other sports besides basketball?

I have done lot of different sports during my childhood. But basketball is always been number one. So besides basketball, i've done volleyball, track-and-field and swimming. In my opinion other activities were just quite boring for me, so I chose basketball because the game was more intents, harder and joyful.

Tell us something about you

I consider snowboarding in winter as a hobby. When I was a lot younger, i used to act in films and school plays. Now there's not much time to have lot of hobbies, but if I had more time I think I would start doing something artistic.

Tell us something unique that a lot of people don't know about you

When I finished kinder garden i swore to become a ship captain. I still have time....

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?

I have to admit that strange and funny stuff happens to me every now and then. But i guess one of my all time favourite story begins with the fact that i really like all kind of animals. So I used to have a cat at home. Our cat is very individualist, goes out every day in my home town and comes home too usually miaowing behind our door. One night i came home late and it was dark outside so I couldn't see really well, but i noticed one cat in front of our apartment building, just like our cat. I called the cat by our cat's name, but he didn't react. So I thought, okay, very arrogant of him, does he not want to come home to eat? I figured I'll just take him by force in my arms and go home together. The cat didn't mind that i was petting him and seems to like me. So on my way walking up the stairs I noticed that my cat has gained some weight, which was odd, so I though okay, we shouldn't give so much food to him anymore. By that time I was reached up the stairs, I opened the door and the first thing I saw was my mother sitting on a sofa with our cat already on her lap. My mom asked me right away ''who's this cat?'' And I said ''I thought that's our cat.'' We both started laughing. So yes I took home some random cat. But don't worry I set the wrong cat free immediately.

Do you have anything else you would like to teel your fans?

Keep working hard do not quit - no matter what. Keep going hard!

What would be your favourite breakfast on Sunday morning?

Without any doubt pancakes with raspberry jam and a hot coffee.

Thank you Marit for the answers!
