Catz crash the boards, get debut win over Vega 1/Liepāja

After dealing with 15 consecutive wins in the Finnish SM-sarja league, Catz Lappeenranta worked hard to gain the upper hand in a 81-53 debut win over Vega 1/Liepāja on Sunday, January 10.

 

 

Catz went on a 10-0 run late in the first half to build a six point lead before the halftime break 36-30.

 

After losing Cherelle Moore to the season ending injury early in the season, Armands Misus team struggled in the paint.

 

Catz outrebounded the guests 47-24 and extended their lead to the 25 points until the end of the third quarter 63-38.

 

Five time Finnish champions (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015) were better in all quarters to finish the game with a 28 points advantage.

 

Catz improved to 1-0, while Liepāja dropped to 1-1.

 

All time series: 1-0 (this season 1-0).

 

Stat of the game: Ilze Jākobsone connected four three pointers in the first quarters, however, missed four another attempts the rest of the way.

 

Stars of the game: Chandra Harris registered her first double-double, finishing with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

 

Chandrea Jones added 20 points and nine rebounds. Elena Reshetko had 16 points and nine rebounds, while Jennifer Schlott scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

 

Ilze Jākobsone had 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field.
