Chandrea Jones lifts Catz over tough Vega 1/Liepāja

 Finnish champions Catz Lappeenranta used big plays at crunch time by Chandrea Jones to secure a 74-69 road win over Vega 1 Liepāja on Saturday, February 6.

 

 

The guests entered the game without their injured leader Elena Reshetko and trailed after the first half by six points 32-38.

 

Better rebounding and a jaw dropping offensive performance by Chandrea Jones turned the tables in the second half.

 

Mika Haakana`s team went on a 10-2 run early in the third quarter to regain the lead after 22 minutes break 42-40.

 

The hosts attempted to counter with strong perimeter shooting. Three pointers by Daiga Līne and Maija Gertsone put them ahead 52-55 with 08:54 left to play.

 

Ilze Jākobsone and Kristīna Petermane completed another 6-0 run to regain the lead 66-67 with 03:20 before the end of regulation.

 

Over the last three minutes, Catz Lappeenranta defense held Vega 1/Liepāja scoreless and forced one turnover by Ilze Jākobsone, while Jones finished several successful attacks to deliver the victory.

 

Catz Lappeenranta improved to 4-1, while Vega 1/Liepāja dropped to 3-2.

 

All time series: 2-0 (this season 2-0).

 

Stat of the game: Catz outrebounded the hosts in the second half by 14 boards (21-7, full game 40-29).

 

Stars of the game: Chandrea Jones scored a season high 32 points on 12-of-21 shooting from the field.

 

Chandra Harris posted her third double-double in five games, finishing with 17 points and a game high 15 rebounds.

 

All five Vega 1/Liepāja starters finished in double-figure points, while Kristīne Silarāja recorded hr fifth double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

 

Ieva Vītola and Kristīna Petermane scored 15 points each. Ilze Jākobsone and Daiga Līne added 10 points each.
