Sensational Tartu sweep winter series against RSU/Merks

The experienced RSU/Merks made it tough but the Tartu University/Kalev still managed to hold off the two time Latvia-Estonia league bronze medal winners and score a 75-70 home win on Sunday, March 13.

 

 

Even with the Tartu struggles of late, Kaire Asi`s team brought their A game as the RSU/Merks shot just 13 of 46 their two point attempts (28%).

 

The hosts went on a 17-2 run midway the third quarter to grab a 15 point lead with less than 11 minutes to play, 56-41.

 

RSU/Merks, thanks to good offensive performance by Zane Ozoliņa, twice cut the gap to one point, 64-63 and 69-68.

 

The guests turned the ball over in their next attack and Tartu players secured the eighth win of the season which guaranteed them a Top 9 finish for the second consecutive year.

 

Tartu University/Kalev improved to 8-11, while RSU/Merks dropped to 11-7.

 

All time series: 2-5 (this season 2-1).

 

Stat of the game: RSU/Merks players scored seven three pointers more than the hosts (10/23 against 3/18).

 

Stars of the game: Kadri Uiga posted her seventh double-double of the season. She had a season high 20 points and 14 rebounds.

 

Doris Park set six career records in two points made (6). free throws made (8 of 11), defensive rebounds (4), forced fouls (8), points (20) and efficiency (18).

 

Kadi Kals scored a career high 14 points.

 

Santa Dreimane-Visocka answered with 15 points.
