Catz`s win over Tallinn University sets playoff pairings

 Catz Lappeenranta used good defense to defeat the visiting Tallinn University 68-47 on Saturday, March 19.

 

 

After a high scoring first quarter, totaling 42 points, both teams dig in and combined for a 73 points the rest of the way.

 

Mika Haakana`s team allowed just 29 points in the last 30 minutes enroute to its sixth "Top 6" tournament win.

 

All time series: 2-0 (this season 2-0).

 

Stat of the game: the hosts grabbed 22 offensive rebounds.

 

Stars of the game: Elena Reshetko earned her second double-double of the season. She had 17 points, 16 rebounds, four assists and seven forced fouls in 27 minutes of action.

 

Chandra Harris also posted double-double, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

 

Trine Kasemägi scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds.

 

Next games: Catz Lappeenranta vs 1182 Tallinn (March 20), RSU/Merks vs Tallinn University (to be confirmed).

 

PLAY-OFFS

TTT juniores, Tallinn University, RSU/Merks and Latvijas Universitāte enter the battle for the last two spots to the Final 6 to be held in April 8-10 in Tallinn.

 

The play-offs will be played in a home-and-away format, with the overall cumulative score determining the winner of a round. Thus, the score of one single game can be tied.

 

The higher placed team from the Top 6 tournament will play the second game of each match-up at home.

 

Pair 1: #5 TTT juniores – Latvijas Universitāte #8

Pair 2: #6 Tallinn University – RSU/Merks #7

 

The winners will advance to the Latvia-Estonia league Final 6.

 

If they played today:

 

1) the winner of pair 1 will face the 1182 Tallinn (#4) in the quarterfinal on Friday, April 8.

 

2) Vega 1/Liepāja (#3) will face the winner of pair 2.
