Vega 1/Liepāja return to winning ways

"Vega 1/Liepāja" (3-1) picked up an important 71-49 home win against the Latvia U16 team (2-1) to move into the second place in overall standings on Tuesday, October 14.

 

Armands Misus girls were already shorthanded heading into Tuesday`s contest against their younger opponents and finished the game with just six active players. Center Marina Ivashchanka was fouled out, while Maija Gertsone, Rendija Misus and Sabīne Egle had four fouls each.

 

The guests went on a 10-1 run early in the fourth quarter to cut the gap to thirteen points, 60-47. Misus hit a triple to make it 63-47 and Kazāka performed a lay-up for Liepāja. The hosts extended their lead to 22 points in the final four minutes.

 

All time series: 6-0 (this season 1-0).

 

Stat of the game: Vega 1/Liepāja players made 10 assists more than Ainārs Čukste and Līga Alilujeva side (17 against 7).

 

Stars of the game: Liepāja forward Marta Mankowska scored a game high 21 points. She added eight rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots for efficiency rating of 22. Sabīne Egle registered second consecutive double-double, collecting 10 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists for efficiency rating of 19.
