Tartu go three point crazy, Bīriņa guides LU to comeback win

Latvijas Universitāte (3-3) grabbed its third consecutive win in the Latvia-Estonia basketball championship by edging the Tartu University, 79-71, on Saturday, November 8.

 

Tartu University had its best offensive day this season. The guests connected 23 shots from the floor, including 73 percent (!) accuracy from three-point land (8-of-11).

 

It wasn`t enough. The hosts made four more steals (13-9), forced four more turnovers (18-22) and won ten more offensive rebounds (15-5) to rally from a 12 point deficit in the second quarter and seal the win.

 

All time series: 5-1 (this season 1-0).

 

Stat of the game: Tartu power forward Kadri Uiga connected all four three-point attempts, finishing the game with 22 points and eight rebounds.

 

Stars of the game: Center Vineta Bīriņa led Latvijas Universitāte with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Forward Eva Pavlovska had 17 points, four assists and four steals.
