Tallinn University beats 1182 Tallinn to win historic medal

Tallinn University held on to beat 1182 Tallinn 66-56 to win the third place game at the Latvia-Estonia league Final Six at the Olympic Sports center on Sunday, March 22.

 

Kerttu Jallai led the way with 11 points in the second half, including crucial five points a couple of minutes before the end of regulation.

 

Tallinn University went on a 17-5 run early in the fourth quarter for a 10 points lead, 62-52.

 

Six Tallinn University players scored six or more points – Janett Perv, Kerttu Jallai, Rachel Jones, Laura Audere, Guna Lagzdiņa and Oksana Miil.

 

The bronze medal was the first one for Estonian teams in the tournament.

 

With three wins, two places in the Final Four and one medal this was the most successful tournament for Estonian teams so far.

 

All time series: 4-5 (this season 2-2).

 

Stat of the game: Tallinn University players hit 6-of-18 three pointers, including three long balls by Laura Audere, while 1182 Tallinn connected 1-of-9 attempts.

 

Stars of the game: Laura Audere posted double-double, finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Kerttu Jallai added another double-double, while scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

 

Janett Perv had 11 points, five assists and seven forced fouls. Guna Lagzdiņa scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds.

 

Rachel Jones finished with six points, six rebounds and nine assists, while Oksana Miil had seven points and seven rebounds.

 

Birgit Piibur replied with 21 points and seven rebounds. Pirgit Püü chipped in 16 points.
