Let's say hi to Zenta Melnika - the powerful 197cm center from TTT Riga. In her 8 games in Latvian-Estonian Basketball League she has averaged 12.8 points (2p - 71%) and 10.5 rebounds.

How do you motivate yourself before the games?

I motivate myself by thinking of winning, what it would feel like to play well with my team and celebrate the win after.

What kind of rituals you have before the games?

I go through all the things that we work on the week before. Quick meditation right before warmup to gather my thoughts and concentrate on giving all my energy.

Do you have anything you dislike about basketball?

The only thing I dislike about women's basketball and most women's sports in general, is that it isn't so popular and not alot of people come to watch. It seems to be changing these years, I hope that women's sports can become just as popular as men's competitions.

In your eyes, what's the difference between men's and women's basketball?

Men's basketball is more physical and athletic. It makes it faster but that also makes it more hectic, also sometimes more individual. Which works for them. For women we rely more on teamwork and plays.

Have you done any other sports besides basketball?

I have competed in middle school tournaments which included football, volleyball, and basketball. They all contributed to each other and it was nice to experience different things. It helped me with some coordination for sure.

Tell us something about you

I have a lot of hobbies, some drawing, some reading, music, movies, photography, and learning guitar and ukulele. My Instagram account is ZENTAMELNIKA

Tell us something unique that a lot of people don't know about you

I love needles. I love tattoos and piercings and getting blood drawn. Trying to not overdo it is a struggle but I'm doing a good job.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?

Probably me being clumsy in random situations.

Do you have anything else you would like to teel your fans?

For our fans I hope you come to our games and enjoy your time there. For younger players, basketball is so much fun and it takes you to so many amazing places! But only if you work hard and make sacrifices.
