Marko Parkonen is the new head coach of the G4S Noorteliiga Audentes team. He debuted in the Latvia-Estonia league with a 71-73 loss against the more experienced Tallinn University team on Tuesday, October 4.

When you took over the Audentes girls team?

I`m working with the G4S Noorteliiga girls, starting from September 2016. Estonian Basketball federation choose me to coach the team after Jaanus Levkoi moved to his native town of Haapsalu.

I know the girls already as I watched their games before – in the youth league of Estonia and with the National team. Jaanus also gave me his advice on their progress and how to work with them. So far it`s been interesting.

Basically, you have the girls born in 1998/1999 and younger?

More or less, the most of the team is around the girls born in 2000. We have four girls born in 1998 – Mariann Adelbert, Polina Ignatjeva, Siiri Kliimson and Sandra Tael. Like I said the most of the girls are younger.

Are you gonna coach the Estonia U18 team too?

Unfortunately I can`t do it this year as I have to participate in the FIBA approved Coaching sertificate programme during the European U18 men`s championship. Estonia U18 team will be coached by Janne Rits (head coach of the Tallinn University), while I will work with the U16 girls.

You mentioned your work with the U16 team, including the annual Baltic Sea Basketball Cup (BSBC) at Audentes gym in Tallinn. Do you have other professional responsibilities?

I have a boys group also at TTÜ basketball school. I work with the U15 boys team there.
