FCR Media/Rapla enroute to Liepāja grabs a win in Riga

FCR Media/Rapla (1-0) used a strong first half to cruise to a 79-50 road win over Latvijas Universitāte (0-1) on Saturday, October 15.

 

 

Howard Frier`s and Gerly Kostla`s team opened the season with solid home win against the Lithuanian side Aistes-LSU Kaunas. FCR Media/Rapla led by 30 points early in the second half to register its maiden success in the Baltic Women`s basketball league (BWBL).

 

Six days later Estonian team started its first road trip to Latvia with stops in Rīga and Liepāja.

 

The guests controlled the paint (18-8) and scored 12 points off turnovers in the first half alone to build a 27 points lead, 43-16.

 

FCR Media/Rapla entered all players to finish the job.

 

Latvijas Universitāte led by the first year coach and former player Eva Pavlovska won the last quarter, thanks to strong effort by Liene Stalidzāne with some help from Agija Kruga (Liepāja) and newcomers like Anete Ozola (Valmiera) and Marta Milta (Saldus).

 

All time series: 0-6 (this season 0-1).

 

Stat of the game: all 10 players on the court scored for FCR Media/Rapla.

 

Stars of the game: Pirgit Püü registered 13 of her 15 points in the first half, scoring only three points less than the entire LU team in the first half.

 

Francis Donders finished the game with nine points, four assists and four steals.

 

Liene Stalidzāne replied with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists.
