Vega 1/Liepāja make a statement win over FCR Media/Rapla

Vega 1/Liepāja (2-0) led by as much as 23 points to clinch the first home win with a 75-67 success against FCR Media/Rapla (1-1) on Sunday, October 16.

 

Departure of Mailis Pokk and Janett Perv reduced “FCR Media/Rapla” rebounding power. Annika Köster and Marita Maaring did no dress for the game, while Pirgit made just one shot from the court in the first half.

 

Armands Misus team won the battle of rebounds (23-15), scored three times more points in the paint (18-6) and four times more points off turnovers (8-2) to build a 40-25 lead before the break.

 

Liepāja guards were responsible for the most of damage in the first 20 minutes. Ilze Jākobsone scored nine points, dished eight assists and had three steals too. Kristīne Silarāja added another seven points.

 

Laina Mesila-Kaarmann, Francis Donders and Darya Lipinskaja cut the gap to nine points, 45-36. Forward Kristīna Petermane stepped up for the hosts then, scoring eight points in just a few minutes, 60-38.

 

FCR Media/Rapla players scored nine unanswered points in the last minute.

Laina Mesila-Kaarmann finished with a game high 20 points. Francis Donders had 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and four forced fouls.
