Tallinn University shooting guard Pirgit Püü is a born scorer. She can score from any position on the court and she is consistent too. Püü averages a league high 19,9 points, while adding 3,9 rebounds, making 3,6 assists and 3,4 steals.

I guess, it`s not easy to speak after the blowout against TTT Rīga.

Nothing worked against them. I believe that in near future we will do everything, we will work hard and I think we still can play much better. For example, take a look at our home game against RSU/Merks. When we play like a team, we can win. Today`s game was just a bad day for everybody. I guess on Sunday – against RSU/Merks – we will play better.

Your eye got hit on Saturday?

I feel kind of dizzy but I am fine. I`ll be better tomorrow.

How long do you play for the Tallinn University?

This is my third year. Before that I played for three years in Spain, in the second league (Liga Femenina 2).

Which team?

I was two years in Ourense (Galicia) and one year in “Avilés” (ADBA, Asturias).

Celtic corner of the Iberian peninsula?

Yes. “TTT Rīga” center Ieva Kūlīte was my team-mate in Ourense.

Have you played all the time at two?

Or point guard.

From the start?

I played as a point guard for many years. Last two or three years I have been playing two – like a shooting guard – and I think it suits for me better, because I don`t like to play with the ball that much. I think it`s better for me and better for the team.

Now you got a good forward Laura Audere. Is she a great team-mate?

She is really a great team-mate. We need a little bit more time to get to know her – to get her to fit in the team. It`s like a puzzle. We have to make it perfect and we just need some more time to make it work. She is gonna be really helpful for us. Her coming to our team is a big privilege. Laura is a good player.

And she shares the ball.

It`s true.

What do you do in your everyday life?

I am studying now. I went to the nursing school this year. I am studying medicine and – hopefully – I am gonna be a nurse in two or three years. I practice twice a day and between practices I study.

Medicine studies require a lot of time.

It`s not everything about medicine, it`s more like how to be a nurse. Yes, it takes a lot of time. I am not used to it as usually I was a professional basketball player. I went to practice, then home and that was it. Now I gotta go home, go to study and to prepare myself for the next day. It`s hard sometimes. I`ll be good as everybody is helping me.

Who is your first coach?

I started to play basketball in Märjamaa which is like 60 kilometers away from Tallinn (halfway between Tallinn and Pärnu). My first coach was Andrius. When I was fifteen I moved to Tallinn to practice with Jaanus Levkoi who is coaching Eclex. I played for the Audentes youth team for some three years and then I left for Spain.

Do you plan to represent the National team this summer?

Of course! I`m working on my schedule for the summer. I think to play for the National team is a good preparation for the next season. I need to figure it out with my school stuff because I gotta work in hospitals during the summer. I have to find time for everything.
