Audere, Jallai and Püü crash University of Latvia in Game 1

Tallinn University (#5) put one foot in the Nordea league quarterfinals with a huge 81-52 road win over University of Latvia (#8) on Wednesday, March 26.

 

Kersti Sirel`s side was up by 12 points late in the first quarter, 24-12, behind mighty trio of Pirgit Püü, Kerttu Jallai and Laura Audere.

 

Zane Neilande and Ieva Jundase scored five points to open the second quarter and cut the deficit to seven points, 24-17.

 

Püü replied with two quick baskets and paced up the game for the guests.

 

They grabbed eight offensive rebounds in the first half alone to extend their lead to thirteen points, 40-27.

 

Liene Stalidzāne and Anete Vorma worked hard to keep the University of Latvia in the game but were overrun late in the third quarter, 62-41.

 

Ieva Jundase made two jump shots and dished an assist to spark a 0-6 run early in the fourth quarter, 47-65.

 

The guests answered with an even bigger run, 12-0, and cruised to the first win.

 

Audere, Jallai and Püü scored a combined 59 points.

 

Tallinn University will advance with a win or a loss up to 28 points in the second “play-off” game next Monday.

 

Winner will advance to play the RSU/Merks squad (#4) in the quarterfinals on Friday, April 4.

Star of the game: Kertty Jallai was almost flawless in the first half and finished three assists shy of a triple double. She had 15 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists for efficiency rating of 28.
